...Faith Within "Watchmen"...
Today, Mr. Nail asked us to find Faith in our books. However, when I went in search for the presence of faith in the "Watchmen", I instead found the opposite. It seems to me that the "Watchmen" was written in a fashion that shows what happens when faith has completely left. In the scene by scene sketches of this graphic novel, crime runs rampant. The heroes save the day. There is really no spiritual background, except for the point at which Mr. Manhattan says to a reporter that he is God. The way I precieve this writing as a challenage to God, asking Him where He is. Throughout the book, maybe not verbally, but in action the characters battle for the answer to the question "Where is God?"

so, this is an interesting post, but it got me wondering. are you limiting your definition of faith? you seem to be equating it solely with religious belief--does that mean non-religious people are incapable of faith?
the thing that seems central to me about the watchmen is the state the superhero finds himself in. they have been summarily rejected, because (again, to me) the general population has lost faith in their purpose. the everyman has decided he or she is better off taking their chances than having a superhero around to keep things safe. not only has there been a loss of faith in heros, but to an extent, a loss of faith in humanity--at least by the heros that we have turned our backs on. i know you aren't finished with the book, but i wonder what you think about that, whether it will become clear as you progress or not.
To answer your first question, do I believe non-religious people are capable of faith?
I believe that acoording to what you say t obe the definiton to the word Faith, then no, non-religious people can have faith. However, are there really any "non-religious" people? Even if someone does not believe in a spiritual higher authority, it doesn't mean that they're non-religous. They could be religious in the routing for their favorite sports team. They could be religious about drinking every night til they fall asleep. They could be religous about working at their work place.
And as to your second, what I think about the situation you've handed me. I'll answer with a, yes, I haven't finished reading the book. However, I can see the aspects of which you are refering. And I do aggree.
